MARGARET’S MEADOW is a collection of three fields bought for Sidmouth by the Sid Vale Association. 'Margaret’s Wild Flower Meadow' was named in honour of the late Margaret Clark who was Secretary of Sidmouth in Bloom for many years. The other two fields are Gilchrist and Livonia.

They are maintained by the Sid Vale working party who meet every Monday 9-30 to 12 noon. A smaller group meats on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10 - 12 noon. This year they are removing the dead elms which succumbed to disease many years ago and are now dangerous. This is giving the work parties the chance to repair and improve the Devon Banks. The felled timber is being used for log piles and slices of the timber are being drilled for solitary bees and other insects.

The fields are grazed by sheep for part of the year to maintain the habitat for wild flowers. One of the oldest Oak trees in the valley is found in Gilcrest field. It naturally sheds branches which are then left in a pile to rot down with the help of wildlife.

Also in this field is an area which was a Sunken Victorian Pond. Now trees and shrubs have taken the place of any water plants that may have been in it in Victorian times.
