The Lower Knapp, also known as Deans Pond was chosen as an area to adopt in 2007, There is a gate to make it disabled friendly,as is the Knapp, which is just up the road. Situated between Station and Peasland Roads, this area already had a mature wildlife pond which is inhabited by frogs, newts, snails and insects. in 2007 wild English bluebells, fox gloves and primroses were planted by committee members. Nesting boxes and log havens have been created. Homes for Solitary Bees and other insects have been made from recycled logs and are ready for their inhabitants. Large pieces of tree trunks

have been donated by Sid Valley Tree Surgery which are already rotting in the centre ready for wildlife to make their homes.

More wild plants will be added through the coming years and two seats made from recycled carrier bags have been donated one by Waitrose and one by Gater Electrical Contractors They have been sited for visitors to sit and relax.

During the autumn of 2008 the Sidmouth Scouts joined in the planting of 200 native daffodils. At the same time they started removing some of the docks and creeping buttercups which have taken over. This will leave space in the grass to plant other native plants which have in the past been swamped by stronger plants.

In the Spring of 2009 over 100 of the daffodils flowered and although many were lost to the squirrels, we hope there will be more flowing in 2010
