Wild areas in any town are precious; the Knapp certainly is for Sidmouth. It has a meadow, a pond, a woodland area,an orchard, great views, a diversity of wild fauna and flora and all of it is accessible by able bodied and disabled visitors alike. There are 2 special seats carved from 2 large chestnut trees. The first one you come across is a circle of 4 seats for intimate gatherings. The second is in a woodland clearing and is a Story Teller's Seat which is surrounded by carved stump seats. They are all regularly used by mothers and children.

The Knapp like its smaller neighbour the Lower Knapp is reached from Station Road which is on the main Western route to the sea front and is close to the summer 'Park and Ride' car park which operates through the summer months. It is maintained with conservation and biodiversity in mind at all times, by East Devon District Council.

A few pictures of walks in the Knapp can be seen in the slideshow. These will change through the seasons.
